Working Student - Business Automations & AI Builder (f/m/d)
Become a part of nilo and help us to remove the stigma surrounding mental health! Play a vital role in building THE platform for mental wellbeing in the workplace.
AI is reshaping how companies work and you'll be at the center of it at nilo. Working with every team (Sales, Ops, Finance, HR, Marketing), you'll spot where smart automation can free people up for the work that actually matters, then build it and ship it. From week one, your automations run in production and save real hours across the company.
Availability: 20 hours/week (flexible around your lectures)
Enrollment: Must be actively enrolled at a German university for at least another 12 months (Bachelor or Master)
Location: You are already based in Berlin and able to work 2+ days/week in-person in our office.
Start Date: asap
Role Focus: This is an Operations & Workflow Automation role (building practical tools with n8n, Make, APIs, and AI logic). This is NOT a Data Science, ML Engineering, or Data Analytics position.
🚀 What you'll do
Sit with teams, map their workflows, and spot what's automatable
Build and ship automations using tools like n8n with and without AI agents
Train colleagues and gather feedback: adoption matters as much as the build
Track impact: hours saved, errors reduced, processes sped up
Take real ownership: your automations run in production, used by real teams
Example projects: auto-generating weekly reports from our CRM, an AI triage bot for support inboxes, automated invoice data extraction, onboarding checklist automation.
👀 Who we're looking for
Enrolled Student in Berlin: You are actively enrolled at a German university with at least 12 months left before graduation (ideally Information Systems, Business Informatics, Industrial Engineering, Business, CS, or another analytical field). You are already based in Berlin and comfortable working hybrid (2+ days/week in-person in our office).
Pragmatic "Glue" Coder: We care much more about evidence of building than your exact degree. You write lightweight Python or JavaScript to connect systems via APIs/webhooks, and you get excited about automating internal business workflows.
Low-Code & Automation Tools: Hands-on experience with platforms like n8n, Make, or Zapier, combined with a solid understanding of REST APIs, webhooks, and JSON data structures.
Applied AI Capabilities: Practical experience leveraging LLM APIs (e.g., OpenAI, Claude) within workflows—for tasks like prompt engineering, text extraction, data normalization, or simple AI agent routing. (Note: We need practical application, not ML-model training or research).
Business & Process Empathy: Able to quickly understand how a team works (Sales, CS, Ops, Finance) and translate manual steps into working automations people actually adopt—not just technical demos.
Self-Driven Builder Mindset: A track record of building things independently (e.g., side projects, hackathons, open-source contributions, or a bot that automates something in your daily life 😉).
Spreadsheets as a Data Layer: Comfortable using Google Sheets or Excel (formulas, connected data sources) to structure and handle operational data.
Structured & Reliable: A sharp eye for detail and a clean way of working—whether you are mapping out a workflow, documenting a process, or setting up error notifications.
💡 Nice to have (Bonus, no dealbreaker!)
CRM & Business Tools: Firsthand experience with CRM platforms (e.g. HubSpot, Pipedrive, or Salesforce) or internal ticketing systems.
Basic Databases & SQL: Familiarity with relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL) or writing basic SQL queries to fetch and structure operational data.
Messaging & Bot Triggers: Experience building webhook-driven notifications or Slack bots.
Developer Basics: Basic familiarity with version control (Git) and a structured approach to debugging workflows.
